Gray Cake/Salad Plates (grå assieter), 2 pieces. 7 ½ inches in diameter (19 cm) - often referred to as "Gray Fire".
White Demitasse Saucers (vita tefat), 2 pieces. Inches in diameter (14.3 cm). White Demitasse Cups (vita tekoppar), 2 pieces.
Inches in diameter (8.3 cm), approximate 5 ounce capacity (150 ml). Teacups offered in the Blue Fire service. Note: Because of the sweeping, amorphous design of many Blue Fire items, some measurements are approximated. Debuting in 1951, the Blue Fire service was designed by Rörstrand's Hertha Bengtson, who purportedly named her wildly popular design after a wildflower common to Öland, an island off Sweden's southeast coast. This lot contains several rare finds for serious Blue Fire collectors. First, there is the easily recognizable, iconic lidded teapot, offered here in white (rare); demitasse cups in white (rare), matching saucers in white (even rarer), and cake plates in grey the rarest of all! In almost 20 years of collecting, these two demitasse cup & saucer sets in white are the only ones I've ever been able to secure. This entire set is in excellent vintage condition. There is no apparent evidence of repair to any item.Exterior glaze is smooth and shows the herringbone relief beautifully. Upon closer inspection, there is a tiny "glob" of porcelain on the interior sidewall towards the bottom of the pot that has been glazed over. The interior is otherwise remarkably clean. The unglazed footring shows virtually no signs of discoloration.
The pot appears to have been used strictly as a display item. It is numbered and stamped, "Rorstrand Sweden" and was manufactured in 1957.
Both plates are in very good condition and show remarkably few utensil marks. Both plates have very tiny pinpoint "glaze pops" towards their centers. Both also exhibit significant crazing - very common in Grå Eld items - but fortunately, this is more visible on the rear of the these rare plates. Nonetheless, both are structurally very sound and beautiful. Both items are numbered and marked "Rorstrand Inc" and were manufactured in 1956 and 1961.Both rims are smooth and each is nicely glazed. The unglazed footring of one cup is slightly more discolored than the other, but not remarkably so. This same cup has a very a small black fleck on its interior and small pinpoint-sized "crumb" that has been glazed over, located toward the base of its handle. Both cups are numbered and stamped "Rörstrand Sweden" and were manufactured in 1962 and 1963.
Both saucers are in very good condition and show few utensil marks under oblique lighting. Their rims are not entirely smooth. One saucer does have a very slight indentation along its rim that has been glazed over. The other cup's rim has a very tiny area of glaze erosion.
Both of these irregularities are not readily apparent to the naked eye, but you can feel them as you run your finger along the rims. One saucer also has a small "crumb" that has been glazed over, near one of its kiln marks. Both saucers are stamped "Rörstrand Sweden" and were manufactured in 1957.
Fragile collectibles will be double-boxed where appropriate and practical. Terms like "excellent" and "near mint" are subjective, meaning widely different things to different people. And it can be difficult to agree on when "wear and tear consistent with age" has ventured into the territory of actual damage. All I ask in return is that you document any damage, retain all packing materials, and assist me during the claims process. My goal is to find happy homes for these treasures, with the hope that they will bring their new owners as much joy as they've brought me. I have been an avid Blue Fire. Collector for almost 20 years.I own over 400 pieces in each line, so if you are hunting for something in particular, please reach out to me - there's a good chance that I have what you're looking for. I absolutely love chatting with other Rorstrand enthusiasts! Finally, don't be afraid to ask questions. I'd rather be deluged with questions than to have my buyers experience one drop of regret with any item that I sell. _gsrx_vers_1516 GS 9.3 (1516).
